Questions of right, wrong, good, and evil are some of the most profound. For many people, God plays the central role of Moral Lawgiver. With this comes the concern that unless God exists, ethics is in serious trouble. As Nietzsche once put it, morality “has truth only if God is the truth—it stands or falls with faith in God”. Could this fear be overblown? Do we really need God for morality?
